This is an illustration about Helsinki’s central rail station.
This is a great example of Art Nouveau classified style later called and evolved as Art Deco.
It has been built by Eliel Saarinen who won the contest for building the station in 1904, and constructing it started in 1909.
It took about five years and another five to open it while there has also been a delay due to First World War (those humans never learn, let’s hope there’s no three!)
It is one of the most interesting and iconic buildings in Helsinki.
About 850 commuter trains and more than 100 long distance trains pass through this station everyday during the week and this station is considered to be one of the top ten beautiful stations.
